Pranayama Immersion: Teaching Tools for Space Holders

What is inspiring you to learn more about how to bring pranayama practices to people you hold space for? How have you seen it support your own practice?

Prana is subtle, yet it is responsible for all of our functions - whether it be movement, digestion, sleep, or creativity.

Pranayama means to "extend the life force." Therefore, pranayama is more than "breathwork", or taking deep breaths in and out. It is a way of influencing the movement of vital energy throughout the body and mind.

Guiding pranayama can feel daunting - how do you know when to incorporate which tools, and why? How do you know how to support others through developing a more intimate relationship with their breath, and thus their spirit?

As space holders, having the confidence and experiential practice to teach pranayama practices can transform the spaces you hold for people. It can allow individuals to access a much needed sense of calm, break through fatigue, digest grief, or feel supported and safe.

However, these practices are powerful, and are not to be used or taken lightly. Like any other yogic tool, pranayama can bring immense healing OR harm. I've seen many trainings/classes focus on intense breath practices without equipping the guides/teachers on how to adapt them for different bodies, mental and emotional states.

This is why my approach as a yoga therapist is centrally focused on how to adapt pranayama tools to a person or group's specific needs. Having grown up with pranayama as my core yogic practice and navigating a chronic respiratory condition, I'm intimately familiar with the healing potential of pranayama.

In this 10-hour virtual immersion, we'll cover:

  • A deep dive into prana, and it's various functions and responsibilities in the body

  • What is pranayama and it's potential benefits

  • How to incorporate pranayama (breathing) tools therapeutically and safely for your students, clients, and your own practice

  • Purpose and functions of at least 6-8 pranayama techniques

  • Ample opportunity to practice various pranayama techniques and get a deeper sense of how they influence your system

  • Ayurveda philosophy and yoga theory, drawing from several yogic texts

  • Practice teaching 3-4 pranayama techniques

  • Individual and group reflections/discussion

In this 10hr immersion I'll be drawing from over 2000hrs of training and study in yoga, yoga therapy, Ayurveda, and philosophy to support you as teachers/guides in how to refine and build your pranayama facilitation skillS.
